Article from The Mirror, April 2009:

"It’s tougher than ever to land a job – so we’re giving away the chance to get the skills that pay the bills, without having to cough up for a course.

We’re teamed up with Budget Van Insurance to help one lucky reader get a head start with £6,000 worth of training to become an electrician.

So whether you’ve been made redundant and want a fresh start, you’re a school-leaver waiting for a lucky break or you fancy a change of direction, this could be your chance to commence a new career.

The right qualifications and training are vital to finding a job and with our “Become an Electrician” course you can get the latest skills and know-how you will need to make your new vocation a success.

Despite these though times there’s a shortfall of  trained and qualified electricians – it’s not just a job that an unemployed old banker can do.

New building regulations, such as one called Part P, means that there are not enough electricians with the relevant qualifications.

This is set to continue as the average age of electricians is increasing and more are leaving the industry at the end of their careers than are joining.

What’s more, homeowners are no longer able to do their own electrical work without it being signed off by a Part P-registered electrician. So that’s all good news for those with the right qualifications and training.

“It is really important to support tradesman and woman across the UK” says Mnveen Arkan, of Budget Van Insurance.

“As well as making up a large number of our customers, they provide us all with essential services, particularly electricians – we’d be in the dark without them!”

Our course provided through OLCI Construction Training will result in City & Guilds 2330 Levels 2 and 3 and City & Guilds 2356 NVQ Level 3 upon successful completion.

The course covers theory, practice and on-site components.

With course centres up and down the country, anyone can enter. Previous experience is not necessary but entrants must hold Key Skill Level 2 or GCSE Maths and English or equivalent to be accepted into the course."

NB. This competition is now closed.
